WASHINGTON, DC – Jewish Funds for Justice (JFSJ) and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) sent a letter today to Congress, signed by more than 450 rabbis and rabbinical students, calling for an increase in the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour.

The signatories represent geographic and denominational diversity, including leaders from the Modern Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionst, and Renewal movements.  The letter, which was sent today to every Member of Congress (see attached), included the following:

The medieval Jewish scholar Maimonides taught that the highest level of tzedakah (righteousness) is reached when we help someone stand on their own two feet.
