Rooted in cultural learning and a commitment to activism, a Workmen’s Circle I.L. Peretz School Bar/Bat Mitzvah is unlike any other Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience.
As our students prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony, they receive individual, personalized attention from our faculty. With their guidance, students research, write, and deliver two speeches. One speech focuses on community service and social action, as students make the connection between their coming of age and their Jewish responsibility to create a better and more just world. For the other speech, students select three Jewish values, exploring the history of those values, and how they related to their own lives.
Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s is one of our students’ – and families’ – most memorable experiences in our school. Following their Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony, students graduate to our teen Community Service Club, where they continue to give back to local non-profit organizations.
