Lefty Movie Night presents Norma Rae

April 18 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

We continue Lefty Movie Night with a labor classic, Norma Rae. Based on the real life experiences of union activist Crystal Sutton’s attempt to organize the J. P Stevens textile mill in Roanoke North Carolina, Sally Field plays the titular role while Ron Leibman plays the Reuben Warshovsky, the Jewish labor organizer from NYC that inspires Norma to action. This classic film portrays the complexities of union organizing in the deep south during the waning days of organized labor’s power in the 1970s. Popcorn and drinks are provided. There will be a brief introductory talk beforehand.
