Join our Progressive Jewish Movement for Immigrant Rights
This week, the New York State Senate passed the Green Light New York Bill which restores driver’s license access to over 750,000 undocumented immigrants living in the state. Now, New York’s undocumented residents, many of them asylum seekers and refugees, will be able to drive to work, take their children to school and to the doctor, buy groceries for their family, all without fear that a traffic stop could result in family separation and deportation.
This victory was the direct result of our progressive movement’s organizing and advocacy! The Workmen’s Circle is proud to have been a strong and active participant in the immigrant community-led Green Light NY Coalition and campaign.
Over the past months we have:
> Collected and sent thousands of postcards to NY State lawmakers
> Made thousands of phone calls to support the bill
> Organized dozens of strategy and movement-building meetings
> Lobbied in Albany time and time again
> Reached out and worked with fellow Jewish organizations to get this important bill passed
The Green Light NY Campaign is just one of the many ways we show up and turn out for immigrant rights. Earlier this year, we rallied against the corporations who were poised to profit from the separation of families and jailing of children at the border, and we are committed to taking action supporting the rights of undocumented families and children whose only crime is wanting secure and safe lives. The Workmen’s Circle was founded in 1900 by immigrants who came to this country seeking a better life for themselves, and our work for immigrant rights continues this legacy in the 21st century.
We hope you will stand with us as we advocate for immigrant rights and the civil rights of all people.
