ACTIVIST SPOTLIGHT: SARAH FISHKIND

My name is Sarah Fishkind. This past May, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Towson University. I am honored to be a Workers Circle College Network member and look forward to continuing my work with the organization.

I first started organizing when I was a junior in high school in 2018. After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, young people rose up to demand action. We have grown up having lockdown drills and being scared to go to school because of the threat of a shooter. We have had enough.

I live around forty-five minutes outside of Washington, DC, meaning the nation’s capital is very accessible to me. Ever since 2018, I have traveled to Washington, DC, and Maryland’s state capital Annapolis to attend a variety of political events. I have joined the Workers Circle at a variety of events, one being in front of the White House calling on the Biden Administration to protect the freedom to vote, where many stakeholders joined together.

My experience now includes but is not limited to lobbying Congress, testifying in front of state legislators and my local board of education, organizing rallies, traveling the country to attend a variety of summits and protests, attending congressional hearings, and holding leadership roles in a variety of organizations.

Throughout my organizing experience, I have learned about the power of Generation Z. We are the generation experiencing the brunt of gun violence. We are the generation that knows the impact of climate change. Our generation should not have to fight for our lives at a young age, but we know the consequences too well if we do not show up.
