April Actions for Democracy
April 19-23: Equality

Efforts to suppress the vote in places like Georgia and Arizona are direct attacks on the political power built by and within Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities in those states. More than 360 state bills limiting how and when people can vote have been introduced in 2021 alone, and have become law in Georgia (with Texas and Arizona not far behind). The For the People Act will put the power of our democracy back into the hands of us, the people.

Take Action

Watch Suppressed 2021 (under six minutes) with your family, friends, or Section members and advocates (while remaining safe and socially distant!) and then discuss the short film.

Here are sample discussion questions to guide conversation:

  • Have voter suppression bills been introduced in my state? (The Brennan Center for Justice tracks state bills if you’re not sure.)

  • What can I do to fight back against these harmful bills?

  • What’s at stake if these bills pass? What do we gain if they don’t?

  • How would the For the People Act address these bills?

Lift up this week’s action on social media and follow the Workers Circle and NCJW to reshare our posts:

Sample language: 250+ voter suppression bills have been introduced in 43 states. These bills deliberately target people of color & represent the biggest attack on voting rights since Jim Crow. We MUST pass the #ForThePeopleAct to protect the freedom to vote. @NCJW @workerscircle
