The Workers Circle and the Polio Vaccine

The Workers Circle provided polio vaccines for its members at the extremely low cost of $1. This photo is of our members in Cleveland, OH getting vaccinated. 

And…Jonas Salk, who developed the first successful polio vaccine in 1955, was a son and grandson of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, and he benefited from public institutions like the City College of New York which helped countless working class and immigrant families.
