Donor Advised Funds

A donor advised fund (DAF) is an option for a donor who wants to make a charitable transfer today but wants to reserve the ability to recommend recipient charities for grants of the funds over time. The idea is similar to the many private family foundations which are established to hold and invest funds over time and make grants to chosen charities that meet the foundation’s grant guidelines.

Likened often to charitable checking accounts, donor advised funds are typically offered by community foundations or charities affiliated with investment firms such as the Fidelity Gift Fund.
