About Ellen Cassedy

Ellen Cassedy was a founder of the 9 to 5 organization of women office workers that began in Boston fifty years ago. She is the author of a new book, Working 9 to 5: A Women’s Movement, a Labor Union, and the Iconic Movie, with a foreword by Jane Fonda.  
Ellen is also the award-winning author of the book We Are Here: Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust, which is an account of how her journey to connect with her Jewish family roots expanded into an exploration of how people in Lithuania are engaging with their Nazi and Soviet past in order to move toward a more tolerant future. 
Ellen is a translator from Yiddish, especially of fiction by women. 
Ellen is a former columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News and was a speechwriter in the Clinton administration.  She lives in New York City.
