After Congress failed to pass federal voting rights legislation in 2022, the fight to stop voter suppression and advance voting rights shifted to the states. The Minnesota legislature is deliberating on one of the most comprehensive voting rights and democracy reform bills in the nation called Democracy for the People. The Workers Circle has teamed up with the MN-based Coalition We Choose Us to make it possible for you to call Minnesotans about this legislation and patch them through to their lawmakers to make their voices heard.

The Democracy For the People Act would protect the freedom to vote by:

• Restoring voting rights to Minnesotans on parole and probation

• Establishing automatic voter registration

•  Pre-registering 16 and 17 year-olds

The Democracy For the People Act would protect democratic institutions by:

• Protecting election workers against voter intimidation

• Expanding language access for voters who speak English as a second language

• Creating a permanent opt-in absentee voter list so absentee voters do not have to apply for an absentee ballot ahead of each election

The Democracy For the People Act would shrink the influence of corporate money in politics by:

• Require candidates to disclose spending

• Creating public financing funds for elections
