The Workers Circle joins over 80 organizations in condemning authoritarian overreach of the Trump administration
April 4, 2025
The Workers Circle has joined a coalition of over 80 national and local organizations to sound the alarm bell about the Trump administration’s embrace of authoritarianism and attacks on our democracy. As a 125-year-old organization, Workers Circle members have experienced the horrors of authoritarian and fascist regimes, and we refuse to stay silent when we observe the initial stirrings of a new one.
The letter reads:
“America faces a moment of unprecedented constitutional danger. In the first weeks of his second term, President Trump has issued public statements and signed dozens of executive orders, memoranda, and proclamations to gut our federal government, challenge our system of checks and balances, and undermine our Constitution. Federal district courts have issued numerous injunctions and restraining orders to halt or temporarily stop this assault on our system of government. Trump and his allies have responded by threatening judges and private law firms, and by proposing legislation to undercut and intimidate the judicial branch.
“As organizations representing millions of Americans, we are profoundly concerned by these sweeping proposals and the actions of President Trump, his administration, and his congressional allies to intimidate the judiciary, dismantle the rule of law, and weaponize the executive branch.”
About the Workers Circle
Celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2025, the Workers Circle is a national, Jewish social justice organization founded by Eastern European immigrants who came to the United States fleeing autocracy and persecution, and seeking democratic freedoms and economic opportunities. That history drives the organization’s work for an inclusive democracy and social equality today. The Workers Circle’s activism is rooted in 1,000 years of Yiddish culture and tradition. Through strategic and impactful social justice initiatives, vibrant Yiddish language classes and programs, and interactive educational activities, the Workers Circle powers a multigenerational community of activists that is building “a better and more beautiful world for all.” Learn more at www.circle.org.
