The Workers Circle Celebrates US Supreme Court DACA Decision

(New York) – The Workers Circle, a progressive Jewish nonprofit focused on social and economic justice for all and for immigrant workers in particular, celebrates the Supreme Court’s decision on the illegality of President Trump’s move to terminate Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Ann Toback, Chief Executive Officer of the Workers Circle, released the following statement:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a much deserved win for the nearly 700,000 young people currently enrolled in the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. DACA recipients, also known as DREAMers, know no other home than America, where they have grown up and put down roots. This ruling is also a win for our country, which relies so heavily on DREAMers’ contributions to our economy, culture, and social fabric.
We were proud to join other religious and cultural organizations in filing an amicus brief in support of DACA, and we are especially gratified that the Court decision effectively repudiates an illegal and immoral policy. The Workers Circle views the Trump Administration’s attempted termination of the DACA program as nothing more than a racist power play, threatening extraordinary harm to hundreds of thousands of young people, their families and communities.
Nearly 200,000 of these DREAMers are currently designated ‘essential workers.’ While the nation’s leaders argued over whether they deserved to remain here, these DREAMers continued risking their lives to save and care for ours.
The Workers Circle, first founded by Yiddish-speaking immigrants 120 years ago, has a long and proud history of organizing and speaking out against injustices waged on immigrants. Recalling the bigotry and exploitation our own forebears faced over a century ago, we will continue to fight back against this administration’s cruelty, but today we pause in celebration of a major victory.”
