(NEW YORK) — Today, the Supreme Court blocked a federal judge’s order for Virginia to return 1,600 voters to the voting rolls following an Executive Order by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin that had purged suspected non-citizens from the voting rolls.
Ann Toback released this statement in response:
“The Supreme Court has greenlit the purging of 1,600 voters by the state of Virginia in plain violation of the National Voter Registration Act, knowing full well that in doing so, they were denying eligible voters the ability to cast their ballots in this election.
This shameful, unsigned opinion, released from the court’s shadow docket, underscores that the majority of justices on this Court are willing to rewrite law to disenfranchise voters. This is what the erosion of democracy looks like.
The Supreme Court may try to cloak itself in shadow. But make no mistake, we the people have our eyes wide open.”
