Protect Our Freedom to Vote: Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

The historic Selma Bridge Crossing catalyzed the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of that event, we must restore the promise of the Civil Rights movement by passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy. But since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), this cornerstone of democracy has been under relentless attack.

For nearly 50 years, the VRA had broad bipartisan support and served as a critical tool for ensuring every eligible American — regardless of race, income, or zip code — had an equal say in our democracy. But in the eleven years since the disastrous Shelby County v. Holder decision, over 100 state-level laws have been enacted to suppress the vote, disproportionately harming Black, brown, Native, LGBTQ+, disabled, young, and low-income voters.

We cannot let this stand. Congress must act NOW. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will restore and strengthen the VRA, ensuring that all voters have the access and protections they deserve.

Send a message to your representative today — demand they pass this crucial legislation and safeguard our democracy.
