In response to the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, PA, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Ann Toback, CEO of the Workers Circle released the following:

There is no place for political violence or violence of any kind in democratic society.

We condemn the attempted assassination of former President Trump at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, by a gunman which took the life of rally attendee Corey Comperatore, injured Mr. Trump, and critically injured two other people.

Political violence is the resort of those who no longer believe in our nation’s democracy; in our ability as a people to govern ourselves through free and fair elections and legislative and judicial decisions.

We reaffirm our belief in America as a pluralist democracy, anchored in the Constitution, where every person, no matter their political party, heritage, race, gender, age, sexuality, zip code, faith, mental or physical ability, income, or immigration status, is promised the freedom to gather and speak their mind free from violence, intimidation, or fear.

On Saturday, that promise was tested, as it has been before in our nation’s history.

Therefore, we renew our commitment to building an America where our common humanity, respect for and equality under the law, and peaceful, democratic life together characterize our shared future.
