Oppose the SAVE Act Voter Suppression Bill Today
H.R. 22, the SAVE (“Safeguard American Voter Eligibility”) Act is a voter suppression bill introduced by Republican Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) in the 119th Congress that would require all Americans to show either their passport or birth certificate in order to register to vote – no other IDs would be acceptable.
Student IDs, Drivers Licenses, Military IDs, and more would no longer be valid proof to cast your vote in our democratic system. With roughly 150,000,000 Americans without a passport and many more without proper access to their birth certificate, this could be one of the most destructive voter suppression bills in modern history.
69 million women lack a birth certificate that matches their current legal name, creating additional barriers.
Elderly Americans are the least likely to have a passport or immediate access to their birth certificate.
In 7 states, less than one-third of citizens have a valid passport.
That’s why we’re calling you to action. Will you write to your members of Congress and encourage them to oppose the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act today?
