New York Jews and Social Democracy in One City with Daniel Soyer (in English)

$25.00

Between 1870 and 1930, almost 2.5 million Jews immigrated to America from Eastern Europe. Most of them settled in New York, making it the greatest Jewish metropolis of all time. Among other things, New York Jews built a powerful labor and socialist movement. The Workmen's Circle, the Jewish Daily Forward, various unions and other organizations helped to create a social democratic polity in one city that provided for the needs of working people and people experiencing poverty. This lecture will provide an overview of this colorful history.
