ACTIVIST SPOTLIGHT: ANSHU SHARMA
I’m Anshu Sharma and I volunteer with the Workers Circle by phone banking. I really appreciate the sense of community that develops at these phone banks as we all work together to increase voter participation in elections.
My first foray into political activity was in summer 2017 when I did some canvassing for a legislative candidate. When I started undergraduate studies in fall 2017 I joined Virginia21, a nonpartisan group dedicated to increasing college student and youth involvement in politics. Since then I’ve tried to stay involved through canvasses, phone banks, and attending events with local, state, and national politicians and elected officials.
I really care about education and always find there’s more I need to learn about languages, cultures, geography, histories, and sciences. I believe increasing knowledge of all elections, especially local and state elections which are often overlooked, is a key part of fostering a more well educated society. I feel making an educated decision about whom to vote for and to go vote is the first step towards learning more about and actively participating in civic affairs. I look forward to continuing the work to raise voter knowledge and awareness with the Workers Circle in 2023, 2024, and beyond.
